Entry #8: It's Not Just a Drink
When it comes to fitting in, it can feel like everyone is drinking. Whether it's at parties or on social media, it's easy to get the idea that alcohol is just a normal part of being a teen. Here is the truth: underage drinking is NOT cool, and the risks that come along with it can change your life in ways you may not even consider.
Your Brain is Still Growing
You probably already know that your brain isn't fully developed until you're 25. Did you know that drinking alcohol interferes with your brain's growth and development? The teen years are a crucial time for brain development, and alcohol can interfere with how your brain works.
Drinking before your brain is fully developed can lead to issues with memory, decision-making, and concentration. It can make it harder to focus in school or make critically thought-out choices down the road. Plus, if you drink too much as a teen, you're more likely to develop a drinking problem later in life. So, it's not just about being irresponsible now; it's setting yourself up for problems later.
Something that is tough to talk about, but is important to discuss, is the impairment of judgement and coordination while under the influence. Alcohol is oftentimes involved in crimes like sexual assault and driving accidents. It's not just those who drink who are at risk, other can be affected too.
Make the decision to stay smart, stay safe, and make choices that will help you thrive in your adolescent years. You have so much going for you than a drink ever could.
This was very well said and is often not spoken about to teenagers. It's sad how our generation thinks drinking is cool and don't realize the consequences of alcohol.
ReplyDeleteUnderage drinking is a huge problem, and I can definitely see the changes on their mind by the way they act. I like the points you made about how it leads teenagers into the wrong path because they simply think it is cool or if they just want to fit in.
ReplyDeleteFor me, alcohol is one of the drinks I would never want to touch. except for fruit wines with very little alcohol. Not only does it have harmful effects on our bodies, but it also makes us lose control of our behavior when we drink too much. I completely understand and agree with your point of view. Thanks for sharing so we can know more about this drink.
ReplyDeleteI have definitely experienced this issue around me and while I have never been pure pressured into it. There is always that small part that seems like you are being left out or. Your friends are leaving you out; however, it is by choice. It is very bad at our age to be consuming alcohol, I definitely agree with your point of view.
ReplyDeleteI feel like many of us have experienced this and it is important to bring awareness to our community. I have been pressured to drink or smoke with my peers, but I stick to my own virtues and beliefs and don't comply. I know that though it may be fun or I might fit in right now, I am ultimately benefitting my future-self by not conforming to my peers' actions.
